The rocker, it is the round-off of the lower part of the longboard (side view and of profile). (the American shapeurs call the spatula before "Scoop" and the spatula postpones "the Top spin")
Rocker: If you really want to get a screwed up board, get really specific with your shaper about rocker. I did this once and got a board that looked like a banana and only worked on 2-3 foot ledgey low-tide rights. Of course, the second day of those conditions I broke it into three pieces when it spun around backwards as I dropped in. Rocker is the bottom curve of a surfboard. It is one of the most important parts of surfboard design as it really determines how your board turns as well as how the water flows down the board (also called "drive"). Most boards today have a fairly flat curve through the middle of the board with more curve toward the nose and tail. Many of today's shortboards feature a fairly flipped nose rocker. While more rocker - especially tail rocker - usually equates to a looser board, it also reduces drive by pulling more of the board off the water. As we all know, it is easier to turn when going faster (and frankly, more fun, too). Rocker also interacts with the bottom contour in very particular ways. Because this is complicated, your shaper usually has pretty much figured out which combinations work and which don't. Saying something like, "more rocker to make it a bit looser, please," is acceptable. "I need an additional 3/16 of tail rocker 16.5" up from the tail block 'cause the other board bogs and catches when I flail," will instantly mark you as a kook and is not permitted.
A board very punt is very fast even on the waves small and starts quickly but it plants easily in bottom of vagueness and it is difficult to turn.
A very spatulée board is very handy but it "puffs out" too much water and does not accelerate (to be used only on the hollow and powerful waves).
