Welcome in the dictionary of the terms Long Board surfing
Rail (The)
The shape of the rail more or less gives aggressiveness to the board.
A gripped rail penetrates well in water and allows good hangs.
The turns are tighter even at low speed.
A rounder rail ensures of the longer and more stable curves at high speed.
Often, the surfer charges the back of his board at the time to engage a turn what has as a side effect to slow down the longboard.
One thus gives a rail gripped to the back what makes the board more reactive.
In straight line or even in phase of acceleration, the curves are broad and the surfer charges before board (support on the foot front ).
The back of the board is not used any more and in fact the rails of the medium of the board touch water.
In this place, the rails are thus rounder.
