It acts of a reference to a particular position on LongBoard (nose riding with the two feet at the end of the board and the ten toes outside).
But it is also, the identification with only one hand of the one of the 26 letters of the alphabet, in accordance with conventions of dactylology and also with the letter Y in the language of the deaf persons.
It acts also and simply of a sign of Hawaien hello.
The hang ten is practised only in longboard (Board starting from 9 feet) and not on the shortboards..
There is an alternative which is the "hang five", only five fingers of prids at the end of the board.
